Already HerePractices for exploring experienceA little attention. Room to respond.
A simple return

Open or refocus your eyes if needed. Notice your body and the chair or floor supporting it. Look at familiar objects. Resume ordinary activity when you choose.

If you feel dizzy, unsettled, unreal, or disoriented, leave the exercise here. There is nothing to push through.

SELF

Where do
you end?

“At my skin” is a useful physical answer. The experience of that boundary is worth a little attention.

Notice a hand meeting a table, a sound across the room, or the edge of your view. What changes when you include a little more?

INSIDE AND OUTSIDE ARE NEGOTIATIONS

Begin with what is available.

The skin remains a physical boundary. Here we explore how sensation, attention, memory, and interpretation shape the experience of being here, with a world around us. These are experiments in ordinary perception, with no conclusion about reality to reach.

THREE USEFUL DISTINCTIONS

What changes
when attention moves?

Often the invitation is simply to change the emphasis. No change is also a response.

Sensation
What you can feel, hear, or see right now.
Attention
Which part receives the emphasis.
Interpretation
What you take that information to mean.

Mastery is mobility.

Somatic Cognitive Martial Arts is a light analogy for deliberate practice: explore an emphasis, broaden it, and return. The useful skill is choice, rather than the most unusual experience.

Try these while seated or resting somewhere familiar, with no task demanding your attention. A brief exploration is enough.

Back in ordinary life

You might notice comfort that was in the background, make room to listen, or catch a moment of narrowed attention. These are possibilities to explore, without a promised outcome.

A richer life does not necessarily require more stimulation. Sometimes it requires noticing more of what is already here.

Notice what is already here.
Include a little more.
Listen for what changes.
And return when you choose.
